Privacy Policy

WorkElections is a project of Fair Elections Center, a non-profit, non-partisan organization (“FEC” or “we” or “us”). This privacy policy (the “Policy”) describes the information that FEC collects about users of the WorkElections website, https://workelections.org/ (the “Site”), and how we may use and disclose that information. By using the Site, you are deemed to agree to the terms of this Policy, so please do not use the Site if you do not agree with these terms.

We may update this Policy at any time. Any changes to the Policy will become effective upon the date of our posting of the revised Policy on the Site. If you visit the Site following the effective date of the revised Policy, you will be deemed to have accepted the Policy’s updated terms.

1. What Information Does FEC Collect from You as a Site User?

You may provide information to us directly on the Site in several ways. Through our “Contact” page, you may provide your first and last name and your email address, and submit those with any other information you might want to provide. If you wish to submit your personal information to local election officials in a particular State, you may, depending on the State or locality, be able to submit that information through the Site. Generally, the information required for an application to serve as a poll worker consists of:  first and last name, address, email address, phone number(s), date of birth or age within a range, language capabilities, and level of familiarity working with technology. We do not store information you submit for transmission to local election officials. 

The Site also automatically collects some information related to your use of the Site, such as which Site pages you visited, what links you clicked on, and the webpage from which you entered our Site. We use Google Analytics to collect this information.

We use Google Analytics to help us understand traffic on and patterns of visits to our Site. When you visit the Site, Google Analytics will, through cookies, collect the following information from your computer or other online device:

  • technical information, including the internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the internet, your login information, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform; and
  • information about your visit, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL), clickstream to, through and from the Site (including date and time), length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from the page.

2. How Does FEC Use the Information It Collects from You?

  • We use the information you actively provide to us for the following purposes:

    • To provide you with information. We use the contact and related information you provide to us to send you information about poll worker opportunities, upcoming elections, and related information that we believe will be of interest to you. 

    • To respond to your inquiries. If you pose questions or ask us for information, such as through the “Contact Us” form on the Site, we will use your personal information in order to respond to you.

    • For our general organizational purposes. We use information we collect from you for all of our legitimate organizational purposes, such as to help us expand, refine and improve the Site and to tailor it more to your interests and needs, including by requesting feedback from you, and for related internal purposes such as data analysis and internal audits.

  • Other Information. We use the information that is collected automatically about your use of the Site to help us improve the Site, such as by analyzing Site visitor trends, including usage of certain pages or functions on the Site.

3. With Whom Do We Share the Information We Collect About You?

FEC shares the information it collects from or about users of workelections.org in very limited circumstances, as follows:

  • Operational Partners and Third-Party Service Providers. We may share Site user information with our operational partners and with unaffiliated third parties who provide us with services or assist us with technology, data analysis, or similar services. We do not share personal information with unaffiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes.

  • Acquirers or Assignees. In the event of a reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of FEC or its assets, we may transfer any and all information that we collect from Site users to the proposed or actual acquiring party or assignee.

  • Entities Entitled Under Law. We may disclose user information as we believe to be appropriate in the following circumstances: (i) when required by applicable law, including laws outside your country of residence; (ii) to comply with legal process (iii) to respond to requests from public and government authorities; (iv) to enforce the terms and conditions for use of the Site, including this Policy; (v) to protect and defend our rights and property; (vi) to protect the interests of FEC or others; and (vii) to permit us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain. We have no obligation to notify you of such disclosures, except as required by applicable law.

We may share information that may relate to your usage of the Site but does not identify you personally for any legitimate purpose.

4. How Do We Protect the Information We Collect From You?

  • We use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures to help protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. However, no data transmission over the Internet or data storage system can be guaranteed to be 100 percent secure. Please do not send us information you consider confidential via e-mail.

5. Collection of Personal Information by Others.

  • Tracking on Our Site. We do not currently allow others to collect the personal information of our Site users by tracking individuals’ usage of our Site and other websites over time.

  • Other Websites. The Site contains links to websites operated by election officials and may contain links to other websites not operated by FEC as well. These linked websites are not under our control and we are not responsible for the privacy practices or the contents of any such unaffiliated parties or their websites. If you provide personal information  through any such third-party website, the information will be collected and controlled by the privacy policy of that third party. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the privacy policies and practices of any such third parties.

6. Use of the Site by Children.

Our Site is not directed to children under the age of thirteen (13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under age thirteen (13), and if we discover that we have collected any personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete it.

7. International Transfers of Information.

By using the Site, you are deemed to understand and unambiguously consent to the collection and processing of your personal information in the United States, with the awareness that the laws of the United States may not provide as much protection for personal information as the laws of certain other countries or territories.
