Poll Worker Start Time:

9:00 PM (Full and part-day shifts are available. Part-day shifts run from 6:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 1:30 PM until approximately 9:00 PM.)
Compensation:
$15 to $20 per hour for Election Day. $10 per hour for training. Student workers are paid $8 to $10 per hour for Election Day and training.

Work Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 16-year-old high school students.

  • You must complete training to be a poll worker.

  • Training Details: A combination of in-person and online training is required. Online training typically last 1 to 2 hours. In-person training typically lasts 1 hour. Chief election inspectors are required to take 6 hours of training every 2 years.

Additional Information

High School students at least 16 years of age are welcome to assist with Election Day activities and may receive credit towards civic studies by participating.

In most cases, poll workers must be qualified electors of the county in which they serve (i.e., adult U.S. citizens who reside in the county and are not otherwise disqualified to vote).

16 and 17-year-old student poll workers can only work at the polling place serving their residence.
