Work Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 16-year-old high school students.

  • You must complete training to be a poll worker.

  • Training Details: In-person training typically lasts 1 to 2 hours. Online training options may be available. Poll workers must attend training at least once every two years. Training is offered prior to each election. Chief election inspectors are required to take 6 hours of training every 2 years.

In most cases, poll workers must be qualified electors of the county in which they serve (i.e., adult U.S. citizens who reside in the county and are not otherwise disqualified to vote).

16 and 17-year-old student poll workers can only work at the polling place serving their residence. 16 and 17 year-old student workers can volunteer to earn community service credits.
