Voter Registration Requirements

  • You must be registered to vote in Lake County to be a poll worker

  • Note: This voter registration requirement does not apply to poll workers under the age of 18.

Work Requirements

  • Minimum Age: High school juniors/seniors who are U.S. citizens and county residents. 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by Election Day must be registered to vote.

  • You must complete training to be a poll worker.

  • Training Details: A combination of in-person and online training is required. In-person training typically lasts 4 hours. Training is required every even-numbered year. Additional training is required for Early Voting and nursing home workers.

Election officials may allow students who are U.S. citizens and are enrolled in public or private Illinois universities, colleges, or community colleges to serve as poll workers without being registered to vote in the jurisdiction. Early voting and nursing home workers must also work on Election Day.

Individuals who are comfortable using computers and tablets are strongly encouraged to apply.
