Voter Registration Requirements

  • You must be registered to vote in Vermilion County to be a poll worker.

  • Note: This voter registration requirement does not apply to poll workers under the age of 18.

Work Requirements

  • Minimum Age: High school juniors/seniors who are U.S. citizens and county residents.

  • You must complete training to be a poll worker.

  • Training Details: Training is held in-person and lasts approximately 4 hours. Training is required every even-numbered year. Refresher classes are held before most elections.

Poll workers are expected to work all elections within a two-year term of office. At the end of the term, they will be re-certified for another term of office. If for any reason a worker is unable to work an election or does not wish to continue as a poll worker, the Election Commission should be notified as soon as possible.

Election officials may allow students who are U.S. citizens and are enrolled in public or private Illinois universities, colleges, or community colleges to serve as poll workers without being registered to vote in the jurisdiction.
